CFU Supports Updated “Xinjiang Supply Chain Business Advisory”

On September 26, 2023, the U.S. Department of State, in collaboration with various government agencies, issued an Addendum to the 2021 Updated “Xinjiang Supply Chain Business Advisory.” This Addendum serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing genocide and crimes against humanity perpetrated by the Chinese regime in East Turkistan and the widespread use of forced labor. Campaign For Uyghurs (CFU) fully supports this advisory and commends the U.S. government’s efforts to shed light on the dire situation in East Turkistan.

The Addendum lists and highlights China’s reprehensible actions in East Turkistan which continue to target Uyghurs and other Turkic groups. These abuses include state-sponsored forced labor, intrusive surveillance, forced population control measures, separation of children from families, mass detention, and other grave human rights violations. Given the gravity of these atrocities, businesses and individuals involved in supply chains, ventures, or investments connected to East Turkistan risk violating U.S. law.

Executive Director Rushan Abbas commented on the updated advisory saying “The Addendum to the Supply Chain Business Advisory underscores the urgency of addressing the human rights crisis in East Turkistan. For far too long, the Chinese regime has committed heinous acts against Uyghurs and other vulnerable communities. This advisory serves as a critical tool to hold those complicit in these abuses accountable. The Addendum is a significant step, but more must be done to end the suffering for all.”

CFU calls on businesses and individuals to take this advisory seriously and to act swiftly to exit supply chains and investments linked to Uyghur forced labor. It is our moral obligation to ensure that we are not complicit in these human rights abuses. The Uyghur community has suffered immeasurable pain and loss, and we must stand with them in their quest for justice and freedom. We urge the international community to join the United States in taking concrete actions to address this crisis and hold the perpetrators accountable.
