CFU Remembers Tiananmen Square Massacre on its 34th Anniversary

As the world commemorates the thirty-fourth  anniversary of the Tiananmen Square Massacre, Campaign for Uyghurs (CFU) stands in solidarity with those who were and have been affected with the Massacre and calls for justice, freedom, and an end to the brutal suppression of human rights in China. The Tiananmen Square Massacre remains as an indelible stain and a horrifying testament to the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) unrelenting repression of the most fundamental rights and freedoms.

CFU remembers the lives lost and the courageous individuals who stood up for their rights and aspirations for a better future during the Tiananmen Square Massacre. Their sacrifice and determination continue to inspire us in our ongoing fight for justice and human rights. The Tiananmen Square Massacre serves as a chilling reminder of the CCP’s disregard for basic human rights and freedoms. We cannot forget the brave individuals who sought democratic reform and paid the ultimate price.

To mark this somber occasion, Honorary Chairman and one of the most outspoken leaders of the Tiananmen student movement, Wuer Kaixi, said: “The Tiananmen student movement may have been one of the most important events in the last century that ended the Cold War. The lesson it should teach those of us in this century is that we must stand united and strong for freedom and democracy.”

Executive Director Rushan Abbas further highlighted the parallels between the Tiananmen Square Massacre and the ongoing atrocities against the Uyghurs in East Turkistan. “We cannot ignore the striking similarities between the Tiananmen Square Massacre and the persecution of the Uyghurs. Both instances involve the systematic suppression of dissent, the denial of basic human rights, and the silencing of voices that dare to speak out against injustice. We must not allow history to repeat itself. It is our collective duty to stand up against these gross violations of human dignity,” Abbas noted.

CFU urges the international community to take decisive action and call upon governments, organizations, and individuals worldwide to join us in demanding justice, accountability, and an end to the CCP’s repression. The memory of the Tiananmen Square Massacre reminds us of the urgent need to defend human rights and to ensure that such atrocities never occur again. Let us honor the memory of the victims by tirelessly advocating for freedom and justice.
