As the world solemnly observes Holocaust Remembrance Day, Campaign for Uyghurs (CFU) commemorates the millions of innocent lives lost during the Holocaust and reiterates its commitment to human rights.

January 27th marks the seventy-ninth anniversary of the liberation of the largest Nazi death camp, Auschwitz-Birkenau. CFU honors the memory of the victims and conveys its deepest sympathies to their families and loved ones. We rededicate ourselves to the solemn vow that the world will never again stand by and watch an entire people be targeted for eradication and reaffirm our commitment to human rights, dignity, and the pursuit of justice.

Unfortunately, even in the 21st century, the world witnesses another humanitarian crisis – the Uyghur genocide perpetrated by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). The Uyghur community in East Turkistan faces severe human rights abuses, including mass detentions, forced abortion and sterilization, state-imposed forced labor, and systematic suppression of cultural and religious freedoms.

“Holocaust Remembrance Day is an occasion for reflection, remembrance, and a renewed commitment to safeguarding human rights. As we commemorate the six million Jewish people as well as all the hundreds of thousands of Roma and Sinti, political dissenters, and others who were systematically persecuted and murdered by the Nazis, we must renew our vow of “Never Again,” says CFU Executive Director Rushan Abbas. “Today, the Uyghur genocide unfolds before our eyes, and it is our moral duty to amplify the voices of the oppressed and ensure accountability for the perpetrators. Nations and organizations that uphold freedom and basic human rights must unite, standing firm against the Chinese regime’s ongoing Uyghur genocide.”

CFU calls on the international community to stand united to condemn these egregious acts and work towards ending the suffering of the Uyghur people.
