CFU Applauds Germany’s Federal Government Strategy on China

Campaign for Uyghurs (CFU) commends the German government for its notable Federal Government Strategy on China, which recognizes and addresses the persistent human rights violations committed by the Chinese regime. Together with many other allies and coalition organizations, CFU is proud to have played a role in shaping Germany’s strategy through its tireless advocacy efforts, information sharing, and collaborative engagement with government officials.

Germany’s strategy underscores the alarming backsliding on civil and political rights, including the curtailing of freedom of the press and expression in China. CFU is deeply committed to advocating for the human rights of all individuals and welcomes Germany’s commitment to holding the Chinese government accountable for its serious human rights violations, as highlighted by the United Nations and other international bodies.

The German government’s recognition of the economic repercussions of human rights violations is commendable. By disallowing any competitive advantages derived from the exploitation of human rights, Germany sends a strong message that such violations will not be tolerated. CFU strongly supports measures like the EU Directive on Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence and the proposed EU Regulation against products made through forced labor, which aim to ensure a level playing field throughout Europe and prevent the sale of products made via forced labor on the European internal market.

Executive Director Rushan Abbas, expressed her gratitude for Germany’s proactive stance saying “We are pleased to see the German government’s commitment to upholding human rights, particularly in cases where genocide is being committed by the Chinese regime against the Uyghurs. With our allies in collaboration, CFU is honored to have contributed to Germany’s efforts in developing a comprehensive strategy that addresses the pressing concerns faced by ethnic and religious communities under Chinese government’s rule. Together, we must continue to address the economic aspect of human rights violations by promoting ethical sourcing practices, banning products made through Uyghur forced labor, and fostering a fair and level playing field in the global market.”

CFU calls on individuals, organizations, and governments to advocate for the human rights of Uyghurs and other oppressed communities in China by raising awareness, sharing information, and engaging in peaceful activism. Support efforts to hold the Chinese regime accountable for its crimes against humanity and genocide, including supporting the imposition of global sanctions and advocating for international humanitarian interventions.
