There are at least three million Uyghur and other Turkic people in detention in East Turkistan (AKA Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous region). Despite mounting pressures from around the globe from nearly 20 countries, despite urgent calls by the U.N. and EU on China numerous times to close those camps and release the Uyghur victims, there is little or no action from the Chinese authorities.

While undermining the rule of law and international norms, China is the last country in the world fit to carry on the Olympic legacy and host international games. The IOC must acknowledge that moving forward with the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing is complicit with genocide. To award a country that has three million innocent people in concentration camps with the honor of hosting the Olympics is more than being a bystander to crimes against humanity, its supporting it.

The IOC must safeguard the core values the Olympics have been built upon. The Olympics is a unique international event. It is not about trade or politics. It’s not about which country has the most power, or the most money. The Olympics are about people coming together to celebrate their differences. A country that has banned cultural identity and language, banned Islam, enforced policies that sexually repress its women with forced abortion, and erected hundreds of concentration camps to jail an ethnic group, does not respect these values.

Now we need your support by signing this petition to call on the US government to take leadership on sanctioning China’s Beijing Winter Olympics 2022 and urge other IOC member countries to take actions to prevent China, the 21st Century’s notorious human rights abuser, from hosting the Olympic Games. China is simply not qualified to represent the Olympic spirit.

Background:

Uyghurs are ethnically and culturally a Turkic people living in Central Asia commonly known as East Turkistan. Uyghurs are primarily Muslims. Their culture gave birth to many great civilizations and has been a cradle of scholastic development, culture and power at various points of history. Their homeland East Turkistan is situated in the heart of Asia and lies on the ancient Silk Road. Since Communist China’s occupation of East Turkistan in 1949 the CCP has been relentlessly destroying Uyghur culture and religion. The Uyghurs have been persecuted under the label of “Nationalists”, “Counter revolutionaries” and “Separatists”. In the Aftermath of 9-11, the CCP used the “War on Terrorism” as a pretext by rebranding its effort as a war against Muslim extremists.

Since the arrival of Chen Quanguo in late 2016 in East Turkistan as the regional Communist Party Secretary, he has delivered China’s Central Government’s order of systemic ethnic cleansing, collective punishment and dehumanization of the Uyghurs and other Turkic people in the region. The main method of implementing these goals is through the creation and expansion of Concentration Camps.

International communities have been closely watching this development since mid-2017. Think-tank research center ASPI of Australia reported on 01 Nov. 2018 that since early 2016 there has been a 465% growth in the size of 28 camps in less than 18 months.

As of today, there are three million people held against their will in these camps. The prisoners in the camps are indoctrinated with Communist Party propaganda, forced to renounce Islam and subject to torture and brutal deaths. Despite this blatant human rights abuse and vicious crimes against humanity, Beijing is set for hosting the 2022 Winter Olympics. As China works on its 1000 day countdown to the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics, there are Uyghurs, Kazaks, and other Turkic community members suffering. Should Communist China be rewarded with hosting the Olympic Games while committing genocide against an ethnicity with racial motivations?

There is mounting pressure from around the world towards China’s oppressive and inhumane treatment of Uyghurs:

• On 30 June 2018, economists reported that China turned East Turkistan into a surveillance State and reported again on 01 Dec. 2018 that it is turned into a Police State.
• On 03 Aug. 2018, the UN called for the One million Uyghurs in internment Camps at that time to be freed.
• On 06 Nov. 2018, at UN’s UPR meeting: Democratic models including Australia, Canada, France, Finland, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Netherland, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, the UK, the USA and Japan openly condemned China’s “re-education” Camps and mass detention of Muslim population.
• On 15 Nov. 2018, 15 Western Ambassadors sought a meeting on Xinjiang concerns but were rejected by China.
• On 26 March 2019, ASPI released another report on counterterrorism and indicated that China’s counterterrorism in Xinjiang (aka East Turkistan) is nothing but ‘de-extremification’ and mass repression.
• On 05 July 2019, Dr. Adrian Zenz’s report of “Break Their Roots” indicated that half-million children of the Uyghurs and other Muslim detainees have been taken to State-run orphanages, leaving families broken. They are raised to forsake their Uyghur identity and be loyal to the CCP.

China intensified its systemic persecution by legalizing the camps on 09 Oct 2018, labeling them as ‘re-education’ camps, and sentenced detainees to be transferred to prisons in inner-China. This action ultimately masked the number of Uyghurs being attained.

Why has China built mass detention camps in East Turkistan? Chinese One Belt and One Road (OBOR) Initiative, presented as the 21st Century marshal plan, is intended to colonize weaker and poor nations by lending them large amounts of funding beyond their pay-back capacity. As a result, those nations fall into China’s debt trap and are forced to pay back the loan by giving away their natural resources, land, and important infrastructures, as well as political loyalties. OBOR is a road map for China to place itself on the mantle as the only Superpower in the world. East Turkistan is where 4 land corridors for the OBOR (also called BRI) project branch out to Central Asia, Europe, the Middle-east and Africa. China is now sealing off the entire region, cutting off communication in and out, forcing the Turkic Muslim population to go through social, psychological and biological transformation in the Concentration Camps.

Ongoing international pressure demanding investigations into the conditions of the Uyghur people and the camps hasn’t made any impact on China’s position.

In Aug. 2018, a bipartition group of 17 members of Congress in the US sent a letter to Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, requesting sanctions on China. On 10 Dec. 2018, Hong Kong Press called out for Global sanctions on China. On 03 April 2019, 41 members of Congress sent another letter to Secretary Pompeo and raised the issue once more.
